IDEAS Engineering & Technology (IDEAS-TEK) is a small business dedicated to the development of innovative and cost-effective solutions for aerospace, medical, and other mission-critical applications. IDEAS-TEK provides unmatched digital design, embedded systems engineering, and software development services to the private sector and US government agencies. Our solutions range from full custom and proprietary designs of digital systems to open-source hardware and software designs provided to the community for development and experimentation.

Dr. Alonzo Vera
Dr. Jorge Piovesan
Director of Engineering
Alonzo received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. He has specialized in embedded system design for aerospace applications and dynamic partial reconfiguration applications using FPGAs. He has worked on radiation effects mitigation techniques for FPGA-based systems and custom ASICs as well as radiation effects testing at different facilities around the country. Alonzo has striven to create a culture of excellence within the company, encouraging technical collaboration among the company’s team members. “My biggest satisfaction is that our customers come back to us with new projects. It means we are doing something right!”
Jorge brings a breadth of technical expertise and leadership experience to IDEAS-TEK. His focus is to bring our innovations to market and expand our engineering services to other mission-critical
applications. Jorge has worked on R&D projects that range from the Internet of Things, to medical imaging, to robotics, embedded systems, and cyber/physical systems. Jorge has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico and a B.S. in Electronic Systems Engineering (Summa Cum Laude). "IDEAS-TEK has the perfect environment to pursue high-impact innovation through our projects and our customer’s successes."
Jeff has developed engineering solutions for IDEAS-TEK customers since 2015. His current work includes designing embedded computing and power systems for space missions and developing innovative hardware and software solutions to aid in autonomous vehicle control and navigation using Computer Vision. Jeff holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from UNM and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Computer Engineering with an emphasis in digital design and image processing.
Will brings extensive experience in radiation effects to our team. Before joining IDEAS-TEK he spent 10 years of his career researching and developing techniques to harden electronics at the system, FPGA, and ASIC level. He has experience in testing radiation effects, both SEE and total dose. Will holds a B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology with an emphasis on Telecommunications from the Oregon Institute of Technology.
Dr. Jim Aarestad
Embedded Systems Engineer
Dr. Jim Aarestad is an embedded systems engineer with a background in hardware and software development for space-based instruments and other embedded applications. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of New Mexico, where his research centered on hardware security primitives.
An holds a a Master's in Mechatronics and Sensor Systems from the University of Applied Sciences, Karlsruhe through the Vietnamese-German University as well as a second Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico Tech. He has previously designed circuit boards and microcontrollers for the New Mexico Tech's NMTSAT CubeSat launched in December 2018 and implemented an FPGA image processing algorithm for the University of Turabo's CubeSat, Star Tracker.
Jeanfranco has specialized in design verification since joining IDEAS-TEK in 2017. He has a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of New Mexico with an emphasis in Hardware Engineering. He has shown great interest in verification, RTL design, and hardware development. Jeanfranco enjoys working for IDEAS-TEK because of the multiple projects he can get involved in and the continuous opportunity to learn new skills.
Mike is a Bachelor of Computer Engineering graduate from the University of New Mexico. Mike brings his analytical and programming talents to IDEAS-TEK's engineering team and has contributed his creative abilities to IDEAS-TEK's marketing efforts.
Noah holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico and is currently pursuing an M.S. in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Microelectronics. Noah is greatly interested in hardware development and is continuously working to improve his skills in the field.
Kyler is a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering graduate from New Mexico Tech where he worked on NMT's Flexible Radio Array for Ionospheric and Atmospheric Research (FRAIA). Kyler has a background in GPS testing and waveform development. "I enjoy working at IDEAS-TEK due to the broad range of expertise the team holds."
Business Office Manager
Lisa is responsible for designing and implementing all office procedures and policies, as well as serving as HR generalist. She brings over ten years of office experience and holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Texas. About working at IDEAS-TEK, she says, “I’ve always had a strong passion for the sciences and feel lucky to be supporting such an innovative team!” Outside of the office, she likes to spend her free time sampling local craft brews, trail running, and teaching both sport and historical fencing.
Jonathan holds an MBA in Finance as well as a BBA and a Bachelor's in Music from the University of New Mexico. Jonathan handles IDEAS-TEK's accounting and financial analysis. He also brings 10 years of experience to the team in manufacturing and repairing semiconductors as an equipment technician at Intel.
Jr. Technician/Business Developer
John brings a diverse background of skills to the IDEAS-TEK team, including experience in sales and marketing, data analysis, and technical communication. John holds a B.S. in Mathematics from New Mexico Tech. "I've always been fascinated with space exploration, ever since I was a kid at Space Camp. Now, I work alongside engineers who design the electronics for satellites that make space accessible for new private research and commercial enterprises. For me, that makes what we do here really exciting!"
